Reasons to use handmade, vegan soap.

Most people don’t think about the soap they use each day. But, if you take a minute to think about the fact your skin is the largest organ of the body and can be 22 square feet, you may ponder if you are using the best product on your skin. The skin is made up of three layers and acts as a shield against many factors including harmful chemicals. With that in mind, why would anyone use soap that might contain hazardous chemicals sometimes found in commercial soap? Some commercial soap ingredients include benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), and ethanol. Wow. I can’t even pronounce some of those items!

The reason I turned to using handmade vegan soap is due to the fact I have extremely sensitive skin and it is not uncommon for me to have an eczema (also known as contact dermatitis) flare up when using products with certain ingredients. The constant red, itchy skin was an annoyance, so I started switching to all natural alternatives. Voila! That is when I started using all natural, vegan soap.

People often ask what is vegan soap? Vegan soap is soap that contains no ingredients that come from animals. Soap is made with fats or oils and vegan soap uses vegetable based fats such as organic shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, soybean oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil opposed to animal based fats. Some people don’t mind using soap made from animal based fats, but GBB supports animals and chooses to only use ingredients deemed vegan. With that said, GBB soap is never tested on animals and 10% of profit is donated to help animals that are victims of abuse and neglect.

GBB soap contains no preservatives, no animal products, no petroleum products, no parabens, and no lauryl sulfate. The coconut oil in GBB soap has a very mild ph which is great for the skin and also makes the soap lather nicely. Organic shea butter and other vegetable based oils nourish the skin and don’t dry it out the way commercial soaps might.

Next time you step in the shower, take a minute to think about the soap you are using on the 22 square feet of skin you have protecting the other organs of your body. Maybe you will think about going the all natural, vegan route the way I did.
